Painting & Coffee Tuesdays

As part of the International Womens Community in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, we have a Painting and Coffee club every Tuesday mornings. We get together through a shared love of discovering the magic of watercolours. I have the privilege of running the classes from my home and we block out a whole morning to discover what our talents may be.

Every week we have a different theme and it ranges painting fresh lillies just bought from the flower vendor a few streets down, to painting seasonal fruits like succulent watermelons and pineapples.

Our painting technique is aimed at allowing everyone with different art backgrounds to beable to execute the project of the day. Some projects are more challenging than others and everyone has a preference, but we go over and beyond our comfort zones many times and come back unscathed with a pineapple, melon or lily to show for it.

Recently, we have decided to do painting excursions outside of our classes and our first trip was to ‘El Campo’ courtesy of Cealeste. She invited us to her lovely house in Nissau/Bani and we sat amongst the languid palms lazing in the sun and captured them as we each saw fit. After which we were treated to a delicious fish curry and wonderful company and conversation.

We are not just a painting club that assigns time once a week to share and enjoy painting, we do it for a cause. Each month we raise money, through each student paying for the class and we aim to put it to some good. More details are to follow as we research our options. We are planning fun projects for the coming months and we hope to spread a little art as we go along.

Thank you ladies for giving me this opportunity to conduct classes, its a joy to teach and discover each of your talents.
