Seascaping the DR

Going Back to my Old Passion

Since I was 14 years old, I have been obsessed with Seascapes, coming from a coast city, Dar es Salaam. I have always been drawn to moody skies and windswept palms. Perhaps its the combination of colours that come together in a harmonious and calming way. I was never a moody teenager (at least I didn’t think so) but my Mum would always interpret my paintings to reflect my frustrations…whatever those were!

So I have been delighted in the last couple of months to reuse my long forgotten practice with oils and canvas, to reflect images of the Dominican Republic, a paradise Caribbean Island that draws boatloads and planeloads of tourists to their all inclusive resorts.

Since living here, I have fallen in love with Las Terranas and Bayahibe, the beaches that only receive die hard tourists shying away from the comforts of the all inclusive machine.

The two paintings below have been commissioned by friends for friends living the island, or by friends themselves leaving and wanting to take an image of the island they so loved.
